No one can hide! Learn what faces can tell you about yourself and your friends, loved ones, and strangers.
The ancient art of Chinese face reading is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which has a rich 3,000 history. While Chinese face reading can be a useful diagnostic tool in helping physicians uncover what ails their patients, many people are learning about it to help them discover who they are, how they can grow, and how to deal with other people in their lives.
Benefits of Face Reading
During recent correspondence with Jean Haner, a professional Chinese face reader and author of The Wisdom of Your Face, she noted that Chinese face reading can help people answer two important questions: “Who am I, and what is my calling? Because your face shows your personal strengths and what will fulfill you in life, it can help people discover their purpose in life, what kinds of work will be most enjoyable for them.” She explains that face reading can also help people explore their relationships and make them “the best they can be.”
Parents can also benefit from learning Chinese face reading. This skill, explains Jean, can help parents “understand who their child really is, and how they can support that unique spirit in becoming their fully authentic self.”
Reading Faces
Face reading is a holistic practice: You should never slap a label on someone based on just one or two facial characteristics. Instead, consider the entire face and all its components. Here’s a brief look at just a few of the elements that are part of face reading.
- Forehead: A wide forehead indicates practicality and cleverness; a narrow one suggests someone who thinks things through carefully before acting. People with a high rounded and deep forehead form strong friendships and tend toward idealism. Those with a flat forehead are pragmatic.
- Eyes: Eyes that gaze steadily indicate a stable, persevering individual who is trustworthy. Shifty eyes suggest a restless person who may have a tendency to be dishonest and unreliable. People with unevenly set eyes tend to be analytical and insightful. Wideset eyes are characteristic of broadminded, tolerant individuals. You may find deepset eyes in creative people, who can also be intense, romantic, and possessive. People whose lids are heavy (and not from fatigue) often possess a strong sex drive. Cold, unflinching eyes with small pupils may appear cruel, and if combined with a downturned nose, tight thin lips, and a sharp angular shaped face, the individual may be both mentally and physically cruel.
- Cheeks: People with strong, prominent cheeks are often in positions of leadership and power. In a relationship, the one who has the stronger cheeks is likely the dominant one. Prominent, nonfleshy cheeks indicate thriftiness. People with strong, narrow cheeks may be stubborn and forceful in their expressions.
- Ears: A person who has large ears is said to be an intellectual, while small ears suggests someone who is instinctive. Ears that are close to the head indicate someone who is thrifty and who plans ahead; protruding ears often belong to original thinkers. Big lobes? You are strong-willed. Small lobes? Dependent and lacking initiative.
- Lips: Large lips are a sign of a generous and expressive temperament, while small lips indicate a selfish person. Those that curve down show discontent, while lips that curve up say “I’m cheerful.” Straight lips indicate self-control; narrow lips suggest an unemotional individual.
- Chin: People who have strong jaw lines usually have strong convictions and may be stubborn. A protruding chin indicates a determined individual while a receding chin often reveals a weak personality.
