If you are considering an alternative to conventional medical practices consider Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Traditional Chinese Medicine does work for a variety of illnesses, disorders and injuries. For example, acupuncture, an age old Chinese technique, is successful in providing pain relief and decreased swelling in specific areas.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest continuously practiced forms of health care used by one-quarter of the world's population. It is neither a panacea nor placebo. Placebo is a pill or treatment given to placate rather than to medicate a patient.

Find Relief with Traditional Chinese Medicine

While there are still many people wondering whether Traditional Chinese Medicine can help them with their health problems, others have tried TCM and found relief. For example, people seeking relief from sinus problems, asthma, allergies and post menopausal symptoms, have found Traditional Chinese Medicine to be both beneficial and a satisfactory form of treatment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Versus Conventional Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses less on what you have and more on who you are. In Western culture, the medical doctor sees himself or herself as the general, the illness as the enemy, and the patient as an occupied territory. In fact, medicine holds tremendous power in a culture. It defines what life is, who is healthy, and who is sick.

But Traditional Chinese Medicine views disease as a disruption of the biological well being of the organism, or anything that limits a person's freedom or potential. Within the paradigm of Chinese cosmology, all events in the world are mutually cogenerating, interacting and interdependent.

In conventional medicine, if you have a sore throat and go to a family doctor you may have a throat culture taken. If a bacterial infection is found, you will receive a prescription for antibiotics to kill the germs.

If you go to a Chinese doctor he or she would consider this same throat complaint differently. Therefore, not every sore throat will be treated the same way. For example, if the throat is swollen and inflamed, a Chinese doctor would indicate a problem of heat, so the strategy would be to use acupuncture and cooling herbs to purge the heat. But if there is congestion and hoarseness, this would be a sign of congealed moisture or phlegm for which an expectorant is encouraged and so on.

In Chinese medicine, your emotions, what you feel, the sensations you experience, your personal style and physical shape are all expressions of your Qi (chi). Qi is the animated life force - the stuff that makes things happen. It is an invisible substance. Those who have watched martial arts movies would be familiar with the word Qi (chi).

Chinese doctors will tell you, if your river Qi is abundant and flowing, you are healthy. But when the river is low, or its current is obstructed, you complain of discomfort. Traditional Chinese Medicine explains the state of your Qi is synonymous with how you truly are rather than just how you feel.

Therefore, what you do in your life and how you live your life, directly or inadvertently is linked to your health and overall well being. For more information contact a Traditional Chinese Medical Practitioner in your area.
